How it works

From sidewalk to front door in seconds.

SideTap turns curiosity into action. The same passersby who used to glance and keep walking now have a reason to stop.

  1. 01

    Your artist comes to you.

We don't ship boards. Your artist arrives at your business and letters the sign in person, on the sidewalk — people watching art being made is part of the draw. The board stays permanently at your location.

  2. 02

    People walk past, then stop.

The artwork catches their eye — same as always. But now there's a small prompt in the corner: ‘Tap for a surprise.’ They hold their phone close. No app, no scanning, two seconds tops.

  3. 03

A reward appears — they walk in.

Maybe it's 10% off. Maybe it's a free drink. They redeem at the counter, and you have a new customer plus a measurable line in your dashboard.

The problem

You’ve been guessing whether your sign works.

Every other marketing channel got measurable a decade ago. Your Instagram tells you how many people saw a post. Your website tells you how many people clicked. Your sidewalk sign — the most visible thing your business owns — has told you nothing.

SideTap fixes that. Every tap is a person. Every redeemed offer is a customer. Every month you get a clear picture of what your sign is doing for you.

  • ?

How many people read it today?

Before SideTap: shrug. After: a number.

  • ?

Did anyone walk in because of it?

    Before: faith. After: a receipt.

  • ?

Which sign design pulled the most?

Before: a guess. After: a leaderboard.

  • ?

When is foot traffic actually peaking?

Before: lunch rush, maybe? After: 11:42am, Tuesdays.

The complete picture

We don’t just count taps. We count who walks in.

Every Sideboard has a small sensor built into the frame, and a second one you plug in near your front door. Together, they tell you something no sign has ever been able to tell you: did the person who read your sign actually walk into your store?

And one more thing

Oh, and you get a customer counter. Free.

That small sensor near your door? It counts everyone who walks in — not just people who tapped. You’ll know how many customers you had today. Your busiest hour. Whether Tuesday is actually slower than Thursday or if it just feels that way.

Companies charge $100–200/month for a standalone foot traffic counter. Yours is included with every Sideboard subscription.

Quietly brilliant

Your sign knows things.

Behind the hand-lettered art is a board that pays attention to its surroundings — so it can tell you things no sidewalk sign has ever been able to tell you before.

Weather intelligence

Rainy days drove 22% more taps at your location — people stopped under your awning. Sunny weekends brought more foot traffic but fewer taps. Your dashboard shows how weather affects your sign so you can plan your best offers for the days that matter.

Always watching

Your board knows when it's outside working and when it's inside collecting dust. If it gets knocked over, you'll get an alert. Your dashboard shows deployment uptime so you can see exactly how many hours your sign was out this month — and how that correlates with taps and walk-ins.

Two sides, one winner

Your A-frame has two faces. We measure each one separately. After a month, your dashboard tells you: 'Side A generated 40% more taps. Recommendation: refresh Side B.' Your artist updates the losing side. The winning side stays. Every refresh makes your sign smarter.

Why people actually tap

Curiosity is a stronger pull than a coupon.

A ‘10% off’ sign is wallpaper. A ‘tap to reveal your offer’ sign is a question — and humans are wired to answer questions.

Surprise

Every tap is a tiny gift.

People don’t know what offer they’ll get until they tap. That little hit of curiosity is the same reason people open notifications and pull to refresh. It turns your sign into something they want to engage with.

Friction-free

Two seconds. No app.

Modern phones read SideTap tags natively. They hold their phone close, a branded page opens, the offer is on screen. No app store, no scanning a QR code, no typing — and no excuse to walk past again.

Repeat visits

Regulars tap every time.

Once someone taps and gets something good, they’ll tap again next week to see what they get this time. Your sign stops being decoration and starts being a destination on the sidewalk.

Compound learning

Your sign gets smarter.

Every month, your dashboard shows which side of the board pulled more. Which offer converted. What time of day worked best. Your artist uses that data to make your next sign even better. The longer you subscribe, the more your sign learns.

The artist your data chose

Pick an artist. The numbers back you up.

Every Sideboard artist has a track record — not just a portfolio. You can see how their signs actually perform: how many taps they drive, how many walk-ins, how much revenue. One artist’s signs might generate $1,400/month for their clients. Another’s might generate $890. Both are talented. But now you can choose based on results, not just style.

Your artist isn’t just making your sign beautiful. They’re making you money. And you can see exactly how much.

Built private by default

We don’t track people. We count taps.

SideTap doesn’t collect names, phone numbers, locations, or anything that could identify a customer. There’s nothing to opt into and nothing to sign up for. The customer holds their phone near your sign, gets their offer, and walks in — that’s the whole interaction. You get the count. They get the perk.

Environmental sensors on the board measure foot traffic volume, weather conditions, and deployment status — all anonymous, all aggregate, all to help you understand what your sign is doing.

Questions

Asked &
answered.

Something else on your mind? Email us.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. Every iPhone from the last several years and every modern Android reads SideTap tags natively. They hold their phone close, a page opens in their browser, and the offer is on screen.

What kind of offers can I run?

Anything you want. Free drinks, percentage discounts, free items, a free side with purchase. You set up a pool of rewards, decide how often each one shows up, and the surprise mechanic does the rest. You can change them any time without touching the sign.

What if my customers don't tap?

You still get the rest of your subscription — a fresh hand-lettered sign on a regular cadence. SideTap is a layer on top of that. Most clients see taps within the first day; the curiosity prompt drives engagement on its own.

Can I see what's working in real time?

Yes. Your dashboard updates as taps happen. You can watch a lunch rush build, see which offer is getting redeemed, and adjust your reward pool the same day if you want.

What data does SideTap actually collect?

Every board tracks foot traffic (how many people walk past), attention (how many stop), taps, walk-ins (verified by the entrance sensor), redemptions, and attributed revenue. It also monitors whether your sign is deployed, board orientation, and weather conditions at your location — so you can see how rain, heat, or cold affect engagement. All data is anonymous. We count interactions, not people.

What's the sensor near my door?

It's a small device about the size of a matchbox that plugs into any outlet near your entrance. It counts customers who walk through your door — both from the sign and overall. You get a daily customer count, your busiest hours, and average visit duration. It's included free with every subscription.

Can I test different messages on each side?

Yes. Your A-frame has two faces, and we measure each one independently. Put different specials, different styles, or different offers on each side. After a few weeks, your dashboard shows which side is pulling more taps and walk-ins. Your artist refreshes the underperforming side. The winning side stays.

What happens to the board if I cancel?

The Sideboard-branded board and sensors belong to Sideboard. If you cancel, we'll arrange pickup. While you're subscribed, the board stays permanently at your business and your artist visits on-site for every refresh.

How does weather affect my sign?

Your dashboard shows how temperature and weather conditions correlate with taps and foot traffic. Some businesses see more engagement on rainy days (people stop under awnings). Others peak on sunny weekends. Over time, you'll learn your sign's weather patterns and can time your best offers accordingly.
